Founded at the close of the 1962 World’s Fair in the Seattle Center, the not for profit Northwest Craft Center quickly became Seattle’s premier ceramics showplace and gallery. Under the early leadership of incorporating board members (1965) Norman Warsinske, Jean Johanson, Lorene Spencer, Robert Sperry, Don Foster and Director, Ruth Nomura, the Northwest Craft Center earned a reputation as an organization dedicated to providing discovery, recognition and career development for Northwest artists.
Original board member Polly Stehman summed it up: “Other galleries came upon the scene over the years and some show great work, but none has done as much for the community as the Northwest Craft Center.”
The Craft Center currently offers the work of over 100 Northwest artists in ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, glass, prints, fiber arts, wood, and original paintings. Juried invitational and group shows regularly accompany the permanent collection.
Regnor Reinholdtsen has been showing his work at Northwest Craft Center for over 40 years. “Everyone is so grateful for this space. There is no better place around to buy or show work. It is the only gallery showing that much clay in the region, for all these years.” (Ceramics Monthly, March 2002)
